Professor Buteyko and Mary Birch

Many thousands of people around the world are indebted to the late Professor Konstantin Buteyko, the Russian
medical doctor who dedicated his life to researching and developing the breathing techniques which are now used throughout the world.
Breathing Assessment
Breathing assessment using the latest scientific equipment is available at the Buteyko Bayside Breathing Centre. In this non-invasive assessment, breathing parameters such as heart rate, breathing rate and end-tidal carbon dioxide are measured. Immediate feedback is provided as the results can be viewed on a computer screen. In hyperventilation or over-breathing, excessive amounts of carbon dioxide are exhaled.
Carbon dioxide deficits due to over-breathing can cause, trigger, or exacerbate physical symptoms, performance deficits, and psychological complaints.
The instrument used – the CapnoTrainer® – is not intended for medical diagnosis or treatment, but is an educational instrument designed to enhance performance through learning and teaching good breathing behaviour.
A one hour appointment is necessary for this assessment. To book an appointment, please call the Centre.
